Where were you Saturday night?

I was at a high-impact event mixing with like-minded women leaders–ambitious, driven and navigating similar journeys. 

“Ambitions, Allies and Action” was curated by the formidable Hilda Bolande. We walked away with powerful insights, practical takeaways and the kind of perspective shifts that drive real progress to fuel your next bold move, opportunity, or breakthrough.

Held at the jaw-dropping The Lookout on the 50th floor. While looking out towards the misty skyline line, I had a full circle moment–I used to work on Leadenhall Street some 20+ years ago. And now look at me. Got to love how life plays out.

This was honestly the best day for me, it really does make a difference being in a room full of goal-getters, the inspiration, the ideas and the vibe was more than I could’ve ever imagined. I love events like these. The energy in the room was electrifying.

I made some great connections in Rutendo Sibanda and Saloni Thanki. At either end of the employee/entrepreneur spectrum. One was loving her corporate role full of enthusiasm. The other starting out on her entrepreneurial journey after pivoting from her corporate career, excited about the future.

Networking is all about nurturing relationships with intent and without expectation. Just show up. Be your best authentic self. Offer value. Don’t control all the elements or where it’s going to lead.

My intention changed while I was there. Let your intuition guide you, and you will always be drawn to the right people and have the best time.

Notable sessions: women and wealth and an eye-opening keynote of the female funding journey, which can be brutal and biased.

Some nuggets on getting heard over male voices:

“Be authentic”.

“Add humour when speaking”.

“Put your ego to one side and think of the bigger outcome”. 

Take credit for your worth, be loud and proud: “I really like that you like my suggestion, can we build on it”.

If your voice is being drowned by the testosterone in the room:

“Can you give me some space please so I can be heard”?

This reminded me of Trinny Woodall, who once shared on a podcast, that she was asked by a male investor: “so who’s the real face behind the company”? Trinny London is now estimated at around £180M in 7 short years.

“Lay your foundations, take your time. If your foundations are strong it won’t derail you later when you hit setbacks”. I can totally relate to this.

The Brutal World of Business

We heard the story of the founder of Starling Bank, whose team left her to start Monzo. But she had the grit and determination not to be derailed and turned Starling Bank into a soaring success.

The same could be said for the founder of “Bumble”–the dating app that puts women first. Founded after she suffered sexual harassment in her previous role.

When you find your passion, you’ll find your purpose.

International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March is more than just another awareness date on the DE&I calendar–the theme for 2025 is “Accelerate Action”.

This event encapsulated that sentiment.

The Metrics That Matter

I’m not playing a numbers game. Not the number of impressions or likes. I’m measuring my metrics differently, people and impact.

Because people won’t remember the number of followers or connections you have, but how you made them feel. Your brand is how they feel about themselves in your presence, Elevated? Challenged? Seeing their own brilliance?

Networking Ninja

I’m loving the in-person energy more than I imagined and picked up a few hacks:   

⚫ Focus on 1 or 2 meaningful conversations, you can’t work the whole room.

⚫ Go with the flow, don’t try to control all the elements, be intentional but without expectations by reading the energy of the room. How it plays out in your head isn’t how it will play out in reality.

⚫ Connection and collaboration over competition.

⚫ Make your own mind up. You’re not going to agree with every expert opinion. Not everyone is going to like you, or you them. Keep it simple. Keep it real.

⚫ The people you surround yourself with will either make you or break you.

⚫ Your network is your net worth.

⚫ Create your own table and decide who’s going to sit at it.

Today’s a day when people can feel lonely, out of sorts, overwhelmed and in need of support.

Since the pandemic, we’ve seen far more open conversations about mental health and wellbeing. Lockdowns and being isolated led to increases in loneliness.

Feeling like you don’t have meaningful or close relationships can be associated with increased symptoms of anxiety and depression.

So if you’re feeling tender, here are 10 ways to get you through this day, and every other day.

1.  Show your future some love

Self-care is self-love. Self-pity won’t attract your Soulmate.

Whether single, partnered up or walking away, true love starts with self-love. Don’t settle, just because.   

We teach others how to treat us. How are you being treated? How are you treating yourself?

Whatever love means to you if you have an empty void inside, only you can fill it.  

In simple terms, if you are not happy with yourself, or with your life, the attraction of a partner will only exaggerate the dis-ease, because any action taken from a place of lack is always going to backfire.

You just have to not let your joy depend upon what anybody else is living, cause that’ll get you every time.  

2.  Connection 

Celebrate when someone tells you good news and follow up by taking an interest and asking them to share more. 

3.  Community 

Intentionally seek out places you feel you belong. This might be within an online community, at a running club, at work, or with a group of friends. Create connections that are mindful and healthy.

4.  Indulge yourself 

Do something you LOVE for no other reason than you can. 

5.  Go on a love rampage 

As you go about your day today, mentally pick out 100 things that you love. 

I love my family 

I love my coffee

I love my home

I love the rain

I love the gym 

I love my dog 

I love my perky bum…

This is a powerful frequency-shifter to add to your goal-getting mindset and manifesting prowess.

Anytime you want to change the way you feel and, at the same time, accelerate your life by attracting things you love. Watch how the law of attraction multiples your thoughts and you’ll receive even more things you love! 

6.  Don’t chase. Attract.

Chasing people is exhausting. Attracting them? Effortless. The secret lies in owning your energy. When you’re aligned and unfiltered, the right people can’t help but come to you.

Truth bomb: Staying in victim mode keeps you in a low vibration attracting low vibe people and things. When you raise your frequency you attract what you want. It’s all in your vibration.

7.  Cue your inner Elsa. LET. IT.GO. 

You can’t let love in if you’re angry or bitter. 

Send an apology to someone you’ve had a fallout with. Even if you think you’re right, resentment takes energy. Energy that can be spent working on yourself. 

Apologise for your part in the fallout. And it’s not about you admitting you’re wrong. It’s about processing your feelings so you can be at peace with the situation.

8.  Love notes to self

Pay attention to any compliments and praise you get and write them down. We’re amazing at remembering criticism and forgetting compliments. Make this a priority at the end of each day and watch what happens.

9.  Raise your self-worth

Make a list of the things you’ve done well so far this year and write down any ‘magic moments’ you’ve had along the way. Do this every day.

10.  Spread the love 

Make someone else feel significant, by telling them something you love or admire about them. If you want to feel great about yourself one of the fastest ways to do that is to make someone else smile.

Today was gym day. And as a diehard lipstick-loving gymshark.

I want to help break the stigma of going to the gym and the health benefits of strength training for women. Because getting fit is at the top of most people’s New Year’s hit list.

After all, your health is your wealth. So whatever your fitness struggle be it:

  • a battle of the bulge
  • lose the mum tum
  • it’s all menopause and muffin tops
  • shed those hideous bingo wings 
  • or cellulite has a stranglehold on you 

There is no pain greater than achieving a fitness goal. What give up carbs? Learn about nutrition? Count macros?!

Health and fitness goals are one of the hardest to crush. They require drive, discipline, determination and consistency, it’s a killer right!?

Because why would you knowingly put yourself through physical pain? We weren’t born to exercise. As hunters and gatherers, we eat to survive, period.

The Pros of Getting Gym Fit

● The before and after shots to die for.

● The nod of approval from fellow gym goers when your transformation doesn’t go unnoticed.

I once had a bodybuilder dude come up to me after a year of training and he said I’d lost weight and that I was fat before (I wasn’t) he had just noticed my before and after.

● The ugly gym face you’re allowed to pull.

● That post-workout feeling, and endorphin rush that lasts all day.

The Newbie On The Gym Floor 

FEAR OF FAILURE OR SUCCESS?

People prefer the certainty of their current situation rather than the uncertainty of change. Success can make us more visible when we sometimes feel safer staying out of the public eye.

● Folks give you the side eye in the aerobics studio because you don’t know your left from your right, and all you seem to do is get in everyone’s way. Even though you’re already hiding in the back row.

● Painful school memories of PE lessons come flooding back stirring up all your insecurities.

The physical and psychological pain would put anyone off their gym game.

A Lesson in Consistency

It’s more of a mental game than a physical one.

For example, how to hold a 60-second plank without face planting the floor. 

● Mon – start at 30-seconds 

● Tue – add on 5 seconds  

● Wed – add on 5 seconds  

● Thur – add on 5 seconds  

● Fri – add on 5 seconds  

● Sat – add on 5 seconds  

● Sun – add on 5 seconds. Goal reached.

Rinse and repeat. 

Apply this strategy to walking, running, cycling, swimming and ALL your 2025 goals.

You climb a mountain one stone at a time.

Arbitrary long-term goals are not motivating. You need to find something that moves you NOW. Short-term goals are how you get motivated and start to develop discipline.

Achieving the goal isn’t the goal. Learning about your limitations while you pursue the goal, is the goal. This is how you get stronger, fitter, faster.

Mental Health Needs Physical Support

Going to the gym is part of your life because you don’t just go to the gym, get lean and then all of a sudden stop. It’s an integral part of your whole life.  

Take inventory on the way you relate to your body and how you relate to your work. Notice any similarities.

A lot of our food shame and eating habits stem from our childhood, especially for girls.

Everything from:

  • comfort eating 
  • yo-yo dieting
  • counting calories  
  • under eating
  • over eating
  • binge eating and every other kinda eating  

I ping-ponged from under eating (body shame issues as a teen); to eating out of boredom (trying to fill a void within); to eating for the sake of it, because I had the belief there wasn’t enough food / it would run out (linked to the money belief of there’s not enough).

Playing The Long Game 

Adopt a lifestyle change. Because why should fitness be a total buzzkill?

You Don’t Need Motivation Or WillpowerYou Need A Reason 

Picture this: it’s 5 am on a cold dark December morning the alarm goes off, it’s gym day, but you’re all snuggled up in your goose down.

Imagine this: it’s now 7 am. It’s light, the sun is out but you’ve missed your gym slot because you pressed snooze instead.

Then this happens: it’s 11 am and you’re starting to feel angsty and guilty because you’re kicking yourself for not working out when you had the time. If only…

Nobody wants to jump out of bed at 5 am but compare the short-term feeling of comfort to what you would feel later in the day because you didn’t work out (if you’re anything like me, irritable AF). 

Which would you rather feel? Short-term comfort vs all-day mood swings? 

We’d make more progress if we spent less time negotiating and bargaining with ourselves and just did the damn thing.

Exercise is meant to be fun even if it gets spicy at times, this is how you get fitter and stronger for longer. It’s not meant to be torture.

I love “run-rise” the stillness before the world wakes up (and the dog walkers). Frost fresh, 5 am starts, set you up for the day. 

Starting tomorrow morning, do 20 minutes of exercise before starting your day. Run, walk, yoga. To get your dopamine dose for the day.

Day 2: Exhale 🧘‍♀️

On the second day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Breath control is a total game-changer it regulates your central nervous system and your flight, fight or freeze response in stressful situations.

Box breath: favoured by Navy SEALs and yogis alike. If you’re in the kitchen feeling like a pressure cooker, taken hostage by all the planning & prepping. 

Do 60 seconds of box breathing. Close your eyes, imagining breathing along the 4 sides of a box:

4 counts in

4 counts hold 

4 counts out

4 count hold. 

Repeat. 

Day 3: Love Note To Self 😍

On the third day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Write a list of the top 5 things you’ve accomplished this year that you’re super proud of, big or small, work or personal.

If you’re feeling undervalued and your self-worth takes a knocking. Did they like the gift I gave them? Do they love/hate me for it? Did I put on a good spread? Go read that list and remind yourself how great you are.  

Day 4: You Sweet Thing 😘

On the fourth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Leave a love note in your kids lunch boxes, your partner’s jacket pocket or text a friend. Tell them 3 things you appreciate about them, be it their quirkiness, values, or the little things they do that bring you joy. Be specific. 

We can at times take people for granted because they’re always there. There are those of us who  have lost loved ones at Xmas. Love your tribe hard because you don’t know how long they’re going to be around.

Day 5: Nature’s Medicine 🌲

On the fifth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Nature is the new corner office. Spend 20 minutes outdoors come rain or shine. Forest bathing isn’t a woo woo fad. Go find some green space. Nature teaches us to live in the now and to be mindful of our moments.

I learnt this valuable lesson when trekking in the Himalayas. You can’t plan more than half a day in advance, as nature’s mood is extremely unpredictable and the environment can be quite challenging. Just like life. 

We need to be mega adaptable to changes to the plan and go with what is feasible and appropriate for that particular moment. 

Day 6: Get Your OM On 🧘‍♀️

On the sixth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Future Worrying: Tomorrow’s problems, stealing today’s peace.

Noone will stop loving you if your souffle falls flat, if your pie has a soggy bottom or things don’t go to order on Xmas Day. 

Set a timer for 5 minutes and meditate for peace of mind. Sit still, close your eyes and focus on your mind’s eye (the space between the eyes).

Meditation is about observing your thoughts, not clearing them. It can create calm and patience for busy people with busy minds (me). Quiet reflection can improve focus, reduce stress, and boost problem-solving skills.

These moments of solitude are the space where your thoughts get a chance to breathe, your creativity blossoms and clarity bubbles up.   

Keep your moments quiet shhh.

Day 7: It’s An Inside Job 🧘‍♀️

On the seventh day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Explore your inner landscape. How are you feeling this morning? 

You got to have your feelings. Let them be there. Only this morning I had to grieve a little bit – as a flood of memories came rushing back, so I cried some.

Your emotions are valid and they need permission to be felt, which will improve your empathy and compassion skills, making you less reactive. So when *that* family member, who rubs you up the wrong way, comes around you’ll be less tempted to b*tch slap them with a drumstick.

Have a conscious conversation with yourself and release those feelings with these journal prompts: write, draw or doodle whatever comes up.

How am I truthfully feeling right now?

What’s the trigger?

Why is that stressful?

And just remember, anytime you feel negative emotion, stop and say: 

“Something is important here; otherwise, I wouldn’t be feeling this negative emotion. What is it that I want?” And then simply turn your attention to what you do want.

Learn the language of your body to find inner peace and calm. 

Day 8: Rampage of Appreciation 👏

On the eighth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Gratitude is a powerful frequency-shifter with its high vibration. It can help you find new perspectives to bad situations, quickly lift your mood and get you out of a funk in a nanosecond. 

No Xmas bonus? Going through a rough patch at home? Work problems? Holiday blues, feeling sad, alone or lonely? Missing loved ones? 

Keep a daily gratitude journal and list 20 things you’re grateful for, including your problems. Where there were once obstacles you’ll see solutions and options you didn’t even know existed.

Anytime you want to change the way you feel and, at the same time, accelerate your life by attracting things you love, do a love rampage by picking out and listing all the things you love.

Day 9: Bounce Like Beyonce💃

On the ninth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Shake that booty!!

When you have too much anxious energy crawling through your body. Put on your earbuds and your favourite song and move. 

Because anxiety lives in the body, and not in the mind, you can’t discharge it by overanalyzing your thoughts. So shake what your mama gave you.  

When you listen to what your body is saying, by learning its unique language, and respond to it with safety, your mind will stop creating false narratives and limiting beliefs that keep you stuck in what feels like painful realities.

Stress is created in the mind that shows up as anxiety in the body. Know the difference and learn how to manage each one to forge a better mind/body connection. 

Day 10: H2O 💦

On the tenth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Poor Fuel Choices: What you eat & drink affects how you cope with stress.

Cut back on the coffee, energy drinks and junk carbs, instant gratification = long-term health issues. 

Drink 2 litres of water daily. Your brain is made up of 75% water, it uses up 20% of the energy you put into your body even though it is only 2% of your body mass. 

Give it what it needs to keep your focus sharp and the headaches at bay.

Day 11: Future Focused 😎

On the eleventh day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Before the world wakes up, sit down and journal for 15 minutes on your top 3 goals for 2025.  

1 work 

1 personal 

1 fun

Underneath each one write ONE action step you’re going to take TODAY. 

That’s only 3 action steps per day and you’ll have a better start to 2025 than most.

Day 12: Get Support 🙏

On the twelfth day of Christmas, Koser’s tip to me is…

Talk about it. You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. A problem shared is no longer a burden. 

If you’re struggling mentally, physically or emotionally. If you’re looking for direction or need to make a life-changing decision. Hire a mentor who can take you out of your negative mindset and “safe” strategies and move you from survival to growth.

You are the best investment you’ll ever make. Know your options and take them with kindness and not with shame or blaming. 

Life-changing decisions make your life better even though it might feel scary at the time. In those situations, a simple mindset flip can help: view the fear as excitement. Start to embody a new way of living. Lock in daily habits that match the person you want to be. Real change comes from identity shifts.
